CREAF is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work for CLIMAGOV project (Innovating governance for adaptation to global changes) with ref. 90057 financed by Fons Climàtic of Generalitat de Catalunya.
ClimaGov aims to enhance the adaptive capacity of territories in response to climate change and other global changes by identifying and overcoming barriers to adaptation through innovative approaches to environmental governance. The project promotes collaboration between public administrations, local actors, researchers and other stakeholders, connecting knowledge, capacities and resources to support more effective, participatory and action-oriented adaptation processes and strengthen the long-term emancipatory responses capacity of territories.
A full-time contract is offered (37.5 hours per week). The contract is foreseen to start on November 1st, 2026 and will last at least until December 31st, 2029, with the possibility of extending it if required and if the budget allows. The offered salary is € 34.126,49 gross per year (corresponding to category I4).
MAIN FUNCTIONS
Contribute to the scientific and technical coordination of the ClimaGov project, including partners communication, activity planning, project outputs and governance pilots.
Develop a catalogue of environmental governance tools and contribute to their application in climate adaptation contexts.
Develop the adaptation-projects cartographic viewer, including content, functional structure and relevant spatial layers.
Update and enhance an NbS catalogue in line with the EU Nature Restoration Regulation, and develop a practical toolkit for NbS identification and classification.
Develop adaptive capacity indicators to assess local adaptation processes, alternative governance approaches and Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) models in rural and peri-urban contexts.
Design and deliver capacity-building activities for ClimaGov governance pilots, including technical support, workshops, stakeholder engagement and field visits.
Provide scientific and technical support to LIFE eCOadapt50 project, particularly on indicators, NbS, Living Labs, knowledge transfer and policies.
Contribute to stakeholder networking and knowledge mobilisation with public authorities, researchers and other relevant actors in Europe and the Mediterranean.
Represent the ClimaGov project in the Interreg EUroMED Natural Heritage Mission Community of Practice.
Support the development and assessment of climate adaptation strategies, plans and measures, demonstrative actions, etc. including the identification and analysis of good practices and policy approaches.
Contribute to research proposals, scientific publications, technical reports and knowledge-transfer materials.
Participate in project meetings, workshops and public events, including representation of CREAF and travel when required.
REQUIREMENTS
Doctorate in Environmental Sciences, Geography or similar.
Postdoctoral or equivalent applied research experience in climate change adaptation, Nature-based Solutions, environmental governance or related fields.
Experience in designing and developing Living Labs, participatory processes, stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation.
Experience developing or applying indicators and evaluation frameworks related to adaptation, vulnerability, governance or environmental management (especially in the Mediterranean context).
Experience in scientific literature review, knowledge synthesis and knowledge transfer.
Experience working in multidisciplinary and/or international research projects and collaborating with project partners and stakeholders.
Experience in communicating scientific results to target audiences and supporting the science–policy interface.
Proficiency level of oral and written Catalan, Spanish and advanced level of English.
Fluency in presenting ideas and debating in public, as well as moderation skills.
Autonomy, flexibility, responsibility, and ability to work in a team.
Driving license and willingness to travel.
ASESSABLE CONDITIONS
Experience in European/international research projects, particularly in the Mediterranean.
Experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing, particularly for environmental assessment, territorial analysis, climate adaptation and/or spatial planning.
Experience in innovative stakeholder identification and involvement processes.
High impact peer-reviewed articles and publications on environmental science and climate change topics.
